Merchant Mariner

Why use TWTS?

Transport Workers Tax Service, LLC specializes in Tax Return Preparation for the Merchant Marine Industry. Tax law currently allows substantial deductions for Transportation Workers who are required to travel away from their "tax home" in the course of business. TWTS will maximize your deductions with a minimum amount of paperwork and record keeping on your part.

Our commitment to you is based on the highest of professional accounting standards. We are well versed in the allowable deductions that are outlined in IRS Publications, Tax Court Rulings and IRS Revenue Procedures. To date NO TWTS processed return has been changed by the IRS

Colleen H. Emery, Principal

Colleen has been preparing Mariner Specific Tax Returns for the past ten years. There is not a single return processed by Transport Workers Tax Service that does not go through Colleen's desk!

One of the things that Colleen prides herself in is going above and beyond as your preparer. This became very apparent within the last two years as many mariners received either surprise amended returns, frivolous tax notices, or audit letters. Colleen reviewed many of the amended returns received or assisted with audits regardless of whether or not a mariner was a client of record at the time. Over the years she has published numerous newsletters and presented seminars warning mariners of the invalid meal deductions and in the end many hours making sure the mariners were assisted and correctly advised of allowable deductions. Now that's a 'friend of the maritime industry'.

Denise is our data base queen! Every single vessel schedule that goes through our data base goes through Denise. If Denise can tell you anything it is 'get your vessel schedule and if possible email it to me!' Denise will even send you a $50 gift card if you are the first to send it in!

A message from the Owner and Principal, Colleen Emery

I want to ensure each and every client that I am not unapproachable! If you have an issue or concern about any tax or service related issue and want to discuss it directly with me I assure you I will make every effort to contact you within that business day or the next. Please keep in mind that during our peak season I may not be readily available, so it may take an extra day to reply.

If you are planning to attend Calhoon or MITAGS and would like us to schedule a presentation during that time, contact us. If it works within the schools schedule, we will do our best to try and accommodate the dates. We are in the process of trying to get into Piney Point and hope to have scheduled dates shortly. We also schedule presentations after the union meetings, so again, let us know if there is a specific date you have in mind.

If your question or concern is of an urgent nature, my staff is phenomenal and they can answer many of your questions, but I can appreciate your need to speak directly with me and I welcome that. Please bear with me during peak times; outside of March - April; it's not uncommon for me to personally answer the phones. "Service" is part of our name because I know that's what I expect when I hire someone ~ and I want to ensure you that is what you will receive when you hire Transport Workers Tax Service!
